Pescanova Hosts Their Largest Children's Pirates Event in Baltimore

Pirates of the Caribbean Press Office

Tuesday, May 02, 2006

Pescanova hosted their largest ever children's Pirates event today in Baltimore, USA with more than 2,000 local children enjoying an interactive stage show in the heart of the city, attended by Mayor Martin O'Malley and of course the Pirates of the Caribbean crew!

The crew is about to set off on leg 6 of the Volvo Ocean Race 2005/06 and official partner, Pescanova has been reaching out to local communities around the world and uniting the children with this spectacular sporting event, through the Pirates theme.

The children, aged 8 - 12 were brought together from local schools, many of who have been following the race.

The morning's events commenced with a host of actors and entertainers enthralling the children. Excitement reached near fever pitch with the arrival of The Black Pearl, which pulled up alongside Pier 5 in Baltimore for all the children to see. The real-life Pirates rowed across to greet the children, who treated the crew like the movie stars!

Skipper, Paul Cayard and members of the crew then explained to their captivated audience what life at sea is like; what they wear, eat and experience on their 70ft racing yacht, mid way through their global adventure.

To top the event of for the children there was the first public viewing of the new Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest trailer.

During the event, Paul Cayard presented Mayor Martin O'Malley with a special replica of The Black Pearl, a Volvo Open 70 and thanked him for the spectacular welcome into Baltimore.

Jose Abbad, CEO, Pescanova USA commented: "Today was a truly fantastic show with children from around Baltimore offered a spectacular show from the Pirates of the Caribbean. As Paul Cayard always says to the children there's a little bit of Pirate in all of us and this unique show helps bring this alive!

"It's important to us as a company that we give something back to the community and we believe in investing in the future. Many of the children have been following the race since the start in Spain and have been supporting the Pirates avidly. For us to be able to show the children the first public viewing of the new movie trailer was very special.

"For them, to see the boat and listen to the crew is hugely exciting. Once again we've had a truly memorable event and have helped capture the hearts and imaginations of many young people."
